Magnetic Lashes

Magnetic lashes have started gaining ground in recent months.  Many people have tried them and hate them because they don’t understand how to apply them properly. Click here to learn the secret to an easy application. The great thing about magnetic lashes is they are so easy to reuse!  I find they have a longer life than regular false lashes because they don’t get all gummed up with glue and are just overall easier to apply.

Can you clean magnetic eye lashes? YES! with a little love and care cleaning your magnetic lashes is not only good for the health of your eyes but also keeps them looking good as long as possible .

How long do magnetic lashes last?

If you follow this process once a week ( or after every 4-5 uses)  You will get the best life span out of your lashes. You’ll know they need to be cleaned when the magnets don’t work as well and the lashes are full of excess mascara. With proper care, one set of good quality lashes should last you 25-50 applications.

Are magnetic lashes waterproof?

While it is safe to clean magnetic lashes, I do not recommend swimming or showering in them. They would dislodge and fall off very quickly.

Are magnetic lashes better?

Magnetic lashes are already cleaner than traditional false lashes because there isn’t any glue. When traditional lashes are applied with glue it traps in moisture and can cause excessive growth of fungus and bacteria leading to infection. It can also make you more prone to developing an allergic reaction to the glue with prolonged use. Every time I have used traditional false lashes I have always had a really hard time gluing something on and then using having to use a solvent to remove them.

I had a horror story where I used way too much glue and could not get them off of my eye! After Lots of panic, tears, Feeling like I was ripping my eyelid and runs to the store later, I finally got them off. I vowed I’d never use false lashes again. Magnetic lashes seem to be a better alternative no matter which way you look at them!

How to clean Magnetic Lashes

  • Q-tips

Paper towels or a soft clean cloth depending on preference

Step one:

Get one of the small containers. I like to use glass because it’s so easy to clean. You can use whatever you have on hand. Just make sure your container is clean so you can prevent potential contaminates.

Step two:

Place your lashes in the dish. Make sure the lashes are separated and not magnetized together. Put just enough rubbing alcohol in the dish to completely submerge the lashes and wait 2-3 minutes.  The rubbing alcohol helps dissolve most of the mascara and in the process disinfects them. It’s best to not leave the lashes in the alcohol for too long because dependent on the quality of the lashes this could break them down and affect their life span.

Step three:

Take the lashes out and use your fingers to massage the lashes to get the excess mascara off. This is something that you want to take a little time with so you don’t damage them. Next, place them in a separate dish with cold water and rinse them. Then move them to your cloth or paper towel.

Step Four

Get your micellar water and Q-tip out. Saturate the Q-tip and gently smooth out the lashes with the Q-tip to get the rest of the make up off.  After you have gotten the mascara off, pat them dry.  To ensure they dry completely,  place them back in their case with the lid open and let them dry over night. If you plan on wearing them right after you clean them, put your hair dryer on low and gently blow dry them while they are in their case.

The magnets are strong enough to hold them in place if its on a low setting.  Make sure when you place the lashes back in the container that they are in a C shape so they keep their natural curve. You not want to leave them in a straight line.

The mascara has been broken down from the rubbing alcohol and will come off easier now that it has soaked. As you can see, you will still get quite a bit more make up off after they have been soaked.  This is an important step! It also smooths the lashes out in the right direction.

Before cleaning.
After cleaning. Use a clean mascara wand to brush out the lashes so the don’t dry stuck together. Clean mascara wands are also really helpful if you need to fluff them after you’ve put them on.

How to clean magnetic lashes with lash shampoo

This is technically for lash extensions but would work just as well for magnetic lashes. It comes with a brush to clean the lashes which is really helpful. This would be a good ” inbetween” cleaning for when you don’t want to get all the stuff out to deep clean/ disinfect them.  It also moisturizes the lashes which is important if you’ve invested in high quality magnetic lashes.

  1. Set the Lashes out on the paper towel.
  2. Apply the lash shampoo and use the brush to clean the lashes. Use forward strokes similar to using the q-tip with micellar water.
  3. Rinse with water and pat dry.
  4. Use a clean mascara brush to fan them out so the hairs don’t dry together.
