Magnetic lashes Vs. glue on lashes

Magnetic lashes are cleaner than traditional false lashes because there isn’t any glue. When traditional lashes are applied with glue it traps in moisture and can cause excessive growth of fungus and bacteria leading to infection.

Are magnetic lashes good for sensitive skin?

Glue on lashes can also make you more prone to developing an allergic reaction to the glue with prolonged use. Every time I have used traditional false lashes I have always had a really hard time gluing them on and then using having to use a solvent to remove them.  Magnetic lashes are great for people who have really sensitive skin and can’t use traditional false lashes.

Pros and cons to magnetic lashes

Pros:

  • no glue
  • no mess
  • longer lifespan than glue on lashes
  • more sanitary
  • good for people who are normally sensitive to glue

Cons:

  • application learning curve
  • can feel heavy/itchy after hours of wear

How do magnetic lashes work?

Silly George Magnetic lashes
Here is the top lash. Identified by the magnets being under the lash line.

There are two strips of lashes for each eye. You can identify the top because the magnets are underneath the lash, while the bottom lashes have the magnet on top. Magnetic lashes attach to each other by placing the placing the bottom magnetic lash under your natural lashes and the top magnetic lash on top of your magnetic lashes. They are held secure by holding onto your natural lash inbetween the magnets.

Are magnetic lashes easy to apply?

Learning to apply magnetic lashes is the hardest part. In my opinion, they’re way easier to learn how to apply that glue on lashes but there is still a learning curve.  Some lashes now come pre cut because they are so much easier to apply that way.

This is how I cut my lashes for easiest application. I ordered each section in which I apply them. Watch this video if you want to see how I do it.

How to wear lashes with glasses

can-you-wear-glasses-with-magnetic-lashes

The trick to wearing magnetic lashes with glasses is finding ones that aren’t too long. Trying to wear glasses with lashes hitting your lense is super uncomfortable and it dislodges the lash over time.

A really good set for glasses are the originals from Silly George.

Can I workout in magnetic lashes?

Magnetic lashes stay in place pretty well. You don’t have to worry about sweating them off because there is no glue to wear down.  Between the two, magnetic lashes do better than glue on lashes at the gym.

Are magnetic lashes safe while pregnant?

While it is always our first recommendation to consult your doctor about any potential concerns, there is no reason to believe they wouldn’t be safe to wear while pregnant.

Wearing magnetic lashes while pregnant would be my first option since you don’t have to worry about potentially harmful ingredients in the glue/ solvents to remove the glue.

Can I sleep in magnetic lashes?

The answer is you probably shouldn’t. By the end of the day, you’ll be ready to rip them off just like traditional false lashes anyway. But if you happen to fall asleep in them once or twice, it’s definitely not the end of the world.  If you do fall asleep in them you risk losing one if they fall off, they’re spending more time on your face to harbor bacteria, and they probably won’t be very comfortable. According to Moxie Lash’s website ( a magnetic lash company) they tell their customers not to sleep in them because they can damage the lashes.

Can you curl magnetic lashes?

Yes! Over time as you use the same pair, you may want to curl them as the shape becomes more relaxed with wear.  The only tricky part to this is you don’t want to use a metal eyelash curler. This could cause the lashes to dislodge and get stuck to the lash curler.

This lash curler would be good for magnetic lashes because its plastic. You don’t have to worry about the magnets dislodging.

Can I wear magnetic lashes in a sauna?

While steam might make things more slippery, I don’t think short term use in a sauna would cause them to fall off. In comparison to glue on lashes, magnetic lashes would do better in steam because you don’t have to worry about the glue breaking down.

How many times can you reuse magnetic lashes?

With proper care you can get 25+ uses out of your lashes. You’ll know they need to be cleaned when the magnets don’t work as well and the lashes are full of excess mascara. The quality of the lashes also plays a factor on how many uses you can get out of them.
